Barcelona in One Day!

We loved everything about Barcelona - it was so easy to walk. The people are friendly and helpful. We only had one day and one night in the city after a cruise. We both wished we had more time. Since it's one of the busiest ports in the world you might find yourself with an overnight there. If so we have a few suggestions.

Our Hotel was the Ritz Carlton Hotel Arts - we paid $400.00 for the night and had a great view of the beach. I know this hotel can go for a lot more, so it might depend on the season you are there if it's in your budget. We used our AMEX Platinum Card Fine Hotels and Resort that gave us over $225.00 in extra value in food and drink so we thought this was a great deal. I'll also say I have never in my life had such exceptional service. From a birthday surprise of champagne and chocolates in my room, to the amazing concierge service that made secured last minute tickets to the Cas Batillo (One of Gaudi's masterpieces) and also providing a town car to take us to the center of town and mapping out a walking tour that was simply amazing. We highly recommend this hotel. If you want to see what it's like, here's our room tour and our restaurant review.

We also can't stress enough that if you are in Barcelona you should see at least ONE Gaudi marvel. We only had time to do the Casa Batillo, and we did get the gold ticket that we think was worth the extra. There were long lines there, but having the tickets secure for a time slot we got right in. It also came with a very cool interactive IPad experience that brings augmented reality to your visit and a few special 'gold' access areas. For the extra $10 it was worth it. Again if you have only one day - it's important not to waste time standing in line. Next time we're planning ahead to see the Sagra Familia!

As you enter Cas Batillo you step on a carousel that narrates the madness and genius of Anthony Gaudi. It's the Perfect introduction to what is to come.  The exit is just as colorful, but we'll leave the inside a surprise. Let's just say our photos didn't do it justice and we were too immersed in the experience and truly wanted to enjoy it.

We walked back a few miles to the hotel with the map that the concierge had made for us. One of the highlights was the Central Market in the Gothic Quarter. There is so much to see in Barcelona. Just walking around is such a treat. We had a little bit of tapas and a cold beverage to go in the market. The

We loved seeing the
sites and exploring the shops.
